Prof. George William Kyeyune is a Ugandan visual artist and professor at Makerere University. He lectures in Sculpture and the History of African Art at the College of Engineering, Design and Technology. Raised in Masaka, his artistic talent showed early, sketching on the ground long before he touched a canvas. His work draws inspiration from the social, economic, religious, and political rhythms of everyday life in both rural and urban Uganda.
Prof. Kyeyune holds a PhD in Art History from SOAS, University of London (1999). A prolific painter and sculptor, he has featured in numerous solo and group exhibitions, and his work is widely collected both privately and publicly. He contributed to major national monuments, including the Heroes Monument at Kabamba, the CHOGM Stride project (2007), and led the creation of the Pope’s Monument at Namugongo. His sculptures also grace several streets of Kampala.
