In the heart of Buganda
BUMU Art Gallery is dedicated to promoting and preserving the cultural heritage of Buganda Kingdom while fostering a global appreciation for art. Located in the heart of Buganda Kingdom within the Buganda Cultural Centre, next to the Butikkiro (Katikkiro’s official residence) and just a stone’s throw away from Twekobe – Kabaka’s palace – BUMU Art Gallery’s primary objective is to support and nurture visual artists from all over Uganda and give them an opportunity to exhibit their work to the public, collectors, the media, and cultural and educational institutions.
Open to all backgrounds
BUMU Art Gallery emphasizes Buganda Kingdom’s inclusive and welcoming nature of accepting people from all backgrounds since the 1500s, by featuring a wide range of traditional and contemporary artwork from local and international artists, working in different styles, mediums, and genres.
BUMU Art Gallery is honored to be a repository for significant reflections since art offers distinctive expressions that other media cannot always fully capture and communicates significant messages about our culture, values, dreams, dilemmas, and concerns.
Why the gallery exists
The gallery was established in response to the challenges that many contemporary artists encounter reaching and engaging with audiences, obtaining exposure, visibility, and prominence in the public eye, and maintaining a stable financial future as art professionals. Many artists’ talents go unnoticed or untapped due to lack of exposure, yet art is an economic sector capable of generating meaningful employment.
What we do
Through hosting art exhibitions, artist talks, workshops, and art-related charity events, BUMU Art Gallery hopes to engage the public and media in addition to encouraging them to discover contemporary visual art gems in Uganda. Welcome to BUMU Art Gallery!
